About me

TERMEH YAGHOUBI

Termeh Yaghoubi (b. 1989, Tehran) is a contemporary painter based in Hamburg, Germany. Her practice unfolds between cultures, languages, and states of becoming. With a background in graphic design and an early engagement with theater, she approaches painting as a space where image and narrative merge—where figures do not simply exist, but transform. Her work explores identity as a shifting condition, shaped by migration, memory, and the invisible structures that govern everyday life. Rather than presenting direct representations, she builds symbolic worlds: fragmented bodies, continuous lines, and circular movements that echo cycles of waiting, rupture, and return. Within these spaces, her figures inhabit moments of tension—caught between stillness and action, constraint and resistance. Yet they are never passive. They carry the potential to break patterns, to awaken, and to redefine their position within the systems surrounding them. Influenced by Eastern visual traditions and contemporary perspectives, Yaghoubi’s work moves between intuition and structure. Her paintings do not seek to resolve contradictions; instead, they hold them—inviting reflection on belonging, transformation, and the act of becoming. Since 2015, she has developed a multidisciplinary practice as a painter, graphic designer, and collaborator in independent artistic projects. Her works have been exhibited internationally across Germany, Iran, Turkey, the United States, Japan, and Oman. In 2017, one of her paintings entered a museum collection in San Francisco. In 2023, she was invited to Hamburg through the Martin Roth Foundation residency program in collaboration with the HFBK University of Fine Arts. She continues to live and work in Hamburg.
